How is Publora different from Sprout Social?
Sprout Social handles what happens around a post: replies in the Smart Inbox, customer care cases, reviews, competitor reports and listening. Publora handles the publishing step: one API call or one instruction to an agent creates a post on up to 10 networks, scheduled or published right away.
The network lists overlap but differ. Sprout connects Pinterest, WhatsApp and Trustpilot, and manages reviews from sites such as Google My Business and Yelp; Publora does not publish to any of these. Publora publishes to Mastodon and Telegram, which are not in Sprout's help-center list of profiles you can connect.
Does Sprout Social have an API?
Yes, on the Advanced plan ($399 per seat/month billed annually) and on Enterprise. According to Sprout's API documentation, it covers analytics, inbox messages, listening topics, cases and media upload, and allows 60 requests per minute and 250,000 per month. Its Create Publishing Post endpoint "currently only supports posts in Draft status": a post sent through the API lands on the Sprout Publishing Calendar as a draft.
Publora's REST API has more than 30 endpoints, is available on the free Starter plan, and creates posts that are scheduled or published immediately. It is also listed on RapidAPI. Our Publora vs Hootsuite comparison covers the same API question against another team suite, with code examples.
Can you connect a social media scheduler to ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes, if the scheduler offers an MCP server, the protocol that assistants use to call outside tools. Sprout Social and Publora both have one, and they do different things.
Sprout Social runs a remote MCP server at mcp.sproutsocial.com. Its help center documents setup for ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Enterprise accounts and states that the connection "is only available for TikTok data, specifically for published insights and post performance metrics." The same article says Sprout has not built, tested or documented support for Claude, Gemini or other assistants. Inside the product, Sprout offers Trellis, an AI agent that answers questions about your social data.
Publora's MCP server connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex. Through it, an agent can create drafts, upload media, schedule and publish posts on all 10 networks, and check what is queued. It works on the free plan. Publora also connects to Zapier, IFTTT, Notion, Obsidian, Canva, Adobe Express, WordPress and GitHub Actions, so a post can start in the tool where it was written.
What should an agency choose, and what should a solo creator choose?
An agency that reports to clients, answers their comments and messages, and needs client sign-off without giving clients a login will find those functions in Sprout Social. External approvals are on the Advanced plan; reporting, the inbox and listening are core parts of the product. Publora's Agency plan includes client workspaces, roles and one-link client approvals, but it has no inbox, no listening and no client reporting.
A solo creator or founder who mostly needs to get posts out on several networks pays Publora only for the accounts they connect, with no seat fee. The same applies to developers who publish from scripts and CI pipelines, and to anyone who wants an AI assistant to schedule posts for them.
If neither tool fits, we compared seven Sprout Social alternatives, including Hootsuite, Agorapulse and Buffer, on price, inbox, API and MCP.

How we checked
On October 5, 2026 we read Sprout Social's pricing page, including the plan comparison chart and the pricing FAQ, which lists the month-to-month prices. We also read four Sprout help-center articles (connectable profiles, integrations and two on the ChatGPT connection) and the Sprout API reference. We did not run a Sprout trial for this article, so nothing here describes how Sprout feels to use day to day. Publora details come from our own pricing page and product documentation. Sprout changes plans often; check sproutsocial.com/pricing before you buy.
