Sprout Social Alternatives

Seven tools for teams that want Sprout-style publishing without paying $199 or more per seat, with an honest note on what each one leaves out.

Prices and features checked on each vendor's website in September 2026. Publora is our product.

Sprout Social Alternatives

Sprout Social is a full social media suite: publishing, a shared inbox, reporting, review management and, as paid add-ons, listening and premium analytics. It is priced per seat, so the bill grows with every person who needs a login. Many teams start looking for alternatives when they add a colleague, need more than five profiles, or realize they mostly use the publishing calendar.

This page compares seven alternatives. Some are close replacements with an inbox and reports (Hootsuite, Agorapulse, Vista Social). Some are cheaper schedulers with lighter engagement tools (SocialPilot, Metricool, Buffer). Publora, which publishes this page, is listed first and is the narrowest of the group: it is a scheduler and publishing API built for AI agents, not a customer-care or listening tool.

Every price, plan limit and API or MCP detail below comes from the vendor's own pricing page, help center or developer docs, linked in the sources at the end. Prices change often, so check the vendor page before you buy.

Why people look for Sprout Social alternatives

  • Per-seat pricing adds up quickly

Sprout lists Standard at $199, Professional at $299 and Advanced at $399 per seat per month. A three-person team on Professional pays for three seats. The newer Essentials plan is $79 per seat per month billed annually ($99 billed monthly), but it is aimed at publishing workflows.

  • Profile caps on the entry plans

Essentials and Standard each include 5 social profiles. Unlimited profiles start on Professional, so a brand with more than five accounts is pushed to at least $299 per seat.

  • Listening and premium analytics cost extra

Sprout's pricing page lists Listening and Premium Analytics as separate add-ons, available on Standard and up. Teams comparing headline prices should add these if they need them.

  • API access is on the Advanced plan

The Sprout API is listed under Advanced ($399 per seat per month). Sprout's MCP server is narrow: its help center describes read-only TikTok analytics for ChatGPT, with no publishing.

  • Some teams only use the calendar

If your team rarely touches the inbox or reports and mainly schedules posts, a dedicated scheduler covers the same daily work for a fraction of the cost.

How we chose

  • Each tool publishes to at least the core networks Sprout customers use: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and TikTok (with the exceptions noted per tool).
  • Prices, free plans and plan limits come from the vendor's official pricing page, checked in September 2026.
  • API and MCP status comes only from vendor documentation. Third-party wrappers such as Zapier do not count as the vendor's own MCP server.
  • We included both close replacements (inbox, reports, approvals) and cheaper publishing-first tools, because people leave Sprout for different reasons.
  • We list real drawbacks for every tool, including Publora.

Publora is a social media scheduler and publishing API built for AI agents. You get a calendar, a REST API and an open MCP server, all priced per connected account instead of per seat. FAQ

Is Publora a full replacement for Sprout Social?

No. Publora covers scheduling and publishing through a calendar, REST API and MCP server. It has no unified inbox, no social listening, no ads management and no cross-network reporting. If your team relies on Sprout's Smart Inbox or reports, look at Hootsuite, Agorapulse or Vista Social instead, or pair Publora with a separate engagement tool.

What is the cheapest Sprout Social alternative?

Publora, Buffer and Metricool all have free plans. For paid plans, Publora Pro costs $3.99 per account per month billed yearly, Buffer Essentials $5 per channel billed yearly, and Metricool Starter $20 per month billed yearly for up to 5 brands. None of these include listening.

Which alternative has the closest inbox to Sprout's Smart Inbox?

Agorapulse and Hootsuite both put the shared inbox at the center of their product and include it on their entry plans. Vista Social also includes an inbox on every plan.

Which Sprout Social alternatives have an MCP server?

Among the tools on this page, Publora, Buffer, Metricool and SocialPilot have official MCP servers that can publish, on every plan. Vista Social lists MCP from Professional. Hootsuite offers MCP connectors to account holders. Agorapulse's MCP is in beta and creates drafts only. Sprout's own MCP is read-only TikTok analytics for ChatGPT.

Can I avoid per-seat pricing?

Yes. Publora charges per connected account, Buffer per channel, Metricool per number of brands, and SocialPilot and Vista Social use flat plans that include a set number of users. Hootsuite and Agorapulse, like Sprout, charge per user.

Does Publora publish to Pinterest?

No. Pinterest accounts can be connected, but Publora cannot publish to them. If Pinterest matters to you, Buffer, SocialPilot, Metricool, Vista Social, Agorapulse and Hootsuite all support it.
