Best Buffer Alternatives in 2026

Buffer is a good scheduler. It has a real free plan, a clean interface, a GraphQL API and an MCP server on every plan, including Free. Most people who look for an alternative aren’t unhappy with the product. They want a lower price at their account count, a network Buffer doesn’t support, more room on the free plan, or deeper features in one area.

This page covers the tools that fit those reasons, with prices from each vendor’s own pricing page. Some are cheaper than Buffer, some cover different networks, and a couple cost more but do more.

Publora is our product, so it comes first. Its limits are listed just as plainly as everyone else’s, and every source is linked at the bottom of the page.

Why people look for Buffer alternatives

  • Per-channel pricing adds up

Buffer bills every connected channel. Essentials is $6 per channel per month ($5 billed yearly) for channels 1–10, and Team is $12 ($10 yearly). Ten channels on Essentials cost $60 a month, or $50 on yearly billing. Buffer’s volume discount starts at the 11th channel.

  • Collaboration costs double

Essentials includes one user. Additional users, approval workflows and custom permissions are on the Team plan, which costs twice as much per channel. Small teams that only need two people to share a calendar end up paying the Team rate for every channel.

  • Free plan limits

The free plan covers 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time, 1 user and 30 days of insights. That works for light use; people who schedule a week or more ahead across several networks tend to outgrow it.

  • Networks and API gaps

Buffer covers 11 networks, including Bluesky, Mastodon and Pinterest, but not Telegram. Its API doesn’t accept file uploads: Buffer’s developer docs say media has to be hosted at a public URL first. For automated pipelines that generate images or videos, that means extra hosting work.

How we chose

  • Each tool fits a specific reason people leave Buffer: lower cost, a missing network, a bigger free plan, a narrower focus or a larger feature set.
  • Prices, free plans and network lists come from the vendor’s own pricing or feature pages, checked in September 2026. If a number isn’t published, we say so.
  • API and MCP status comes from vendor docs, help centers or MCP pages. Third-party wrappers such as Zapier don’t count.
  • We list what each tool does worse than Buffer, not only what it does better.
  • No review-site scores or anonymous complaints. Every reason to switch can be checked on the vendor’s site.

FAQ

Is there a cheaper alternative to Buffer?

At a few accounts, Buffer is already inexpensive: Essentials is $6 per channel per month, or $5 billed yearly. Publer is slightly cheaper at $5 ($4 yearly). Publora is $5.99 ($3.99 yearly) for the first five accounts and $2.99 ($1.99 yearly) from the sixth, so it gets cheaper than both as you add accounts.

Does Buffer have an API and MCP server?

Yes. Buffer has a GraphQL API and a remote MCP server, both included on every plan, including Free. The API doesn’t accept file uploads, so media has to be hosted at a public URL.

Which Buffer alternative has the best free plan?

It depends on what you post. Metricool’s free plan allows 20 posts a month for one brand but excludes LinkedIn and X. Publer’s free plan covers 3 accounts with 10 scheduled posts each, without X. Publora’s free plan covers 3 accounts and 15 posts a month with API and MCP access, but only 3 scheduled posts at a time and no X. Typefully’s free plan includes X with 10 posts a month.

Does Buffer support Telegram?

No. Buffer’s supported channels don’t include Telegram. Publora, Publer and Postiz all publish to Telegram.

Can Publora replace Buffer?

For scheduling on the networks it supports, yes, and it adds Telegram and API media uploads. It doesn’t publish to Pinterest or Google Business Profile, has no comment inbox, and its analytics are limited to LinkedIn, Mastodon and Bluesky, so check those before switching.

How do I move from Buffer to another tool?

Connect your accounts in the new tool first, recreate the posts still in your Buffer queue (by hand, by CSV bulk upload where supported, or through the new tool’s API), and let Buffer finish publishing what’s already scheduled. Once the queue is empty, disconnect your channels so you stop paying for them.
